چکیده

This paper presents a summary of a study into the possibility of integration of eld programmable logic and optoelectronic devices. Our primary motivation is a recent development of dynamically recon-gurable FPGAs (DR FPGAs), for which the reconnguration time has a mandatory impact on their performance. We review limitations of DR FPGAs, discuss advantages of optically reconngurable logic, investigate ability of current technologies to manufacture optically reconngurable FPGAs (OR FPGAs), suggest possible conngurations and propose further developments in this area.

A Survey on FPGA-Based Sensor Systems: Towards Intelligent and Reconfigurable Low-Power Sensors for Computer Vision, Control and Signal Processing

The current trend in the evolution of sensor systems seeks ways to provide more accuracy and resolution, while at the same time decreasing the size and power consumption. The use of Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) provides specific reprogrammable hardware technology that can be properly exploited to obtain a reconfigurable sensor system. This adaptation capability enables the implementat...

Taxonomy of Reconfigurable Computing and Operating System

Reconfigurable computing is a promising technology to meet future computational demand by leveraging flexibilities and the high degree of parallelism found in reconfigurable hardware fabrics, such as field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) [1][2]. Reconfigurable computing had played an important role in the course of evolution of the computing paradigms. The journey of FPGAs had carried out from...

Research on Floorplanning for Heterogeneous and Partially Reconfigurable FPGAs

The development of integration technology has followed the famous Moores Law, which was stated by Gordon Moore in the year 1965, that “the number of transistors per chip would grow exponentially (double every 18 months)”. In fact, the doubling period has even shortened to a mere 12 months. Field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) have been popular for more than 20 years, and the market size has b...

Performance Analysis of Various Fragmentation Techniques in Runtime Partially Reconfigurable FPGA

Reconfigurable devices, such as Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs), are very popular in today’s embedded systems design due to their low-cost, high-performance and flexibility. Partially Runtime-Reconfigurable (PRTR) FPGAs allow hardware tasks to be placed and removed dynamically at runtime. A novel 2D area fragmentation metric that takes into account feasibility of placement of future task...

Fast Reconfigurable Crossbar Switching in FPGAs

Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) and reconfigurable crossbar switches currently represent distinct classes of integrated circuits. There is a need, however, for user-programmable devices that can provide both digital logic and fast, reconfigurable crossbar switching of digital signals within a single package. An investigation into the use of dynamically reconfigurable FPGAs for this purpo...
